Education Abroad Scholarships
Our team has complied the following lists of scholarship resources as we aim to make studying abroad accessible for all students. Some scholarships are specific to the region students want to study in while others are from our providers that we partner with to make education abroad possible. We have also provided UNC specific scholarships and links to various databases.

Spanish Studies Abroad Scholarships
Any student (including graduate) studying/interning in Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, or Argentina can apply.
Award: $1,500 | Deadline:Fall: May 15; Spring: Oct. 15; Summer: April 15
Boren Scholarship
For student planning an overseas program in a country outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. The Boren Awards fund the intensive study of language and culture abroad by U.S. Recipients of Boren Scholarships must accept a Service Requirement to work for the federal government in the national security arena for at least a year after graduation

These scholarships are available for students taking part in an ISEP program.

AIFS Study Abroad Scholarships | Financial Aid for Study Abroad
Any student (including graduate) studying/interning in Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, or Argentina can apply.

- Australia and Pacific Islands
New Zealand Generation Study Abroad Excellence and Travel Awards
Multiple scholarships funded by Education New Zealand and New Zealand tertiary institutions to support Generation Study Abroad students with excellence and travel awards. Students must be enrolled at a New Zealand University or Institute of Technology or Polytechnic through a study abroad or exchange program.
Award: $2,000 to help students fund their flight to New Zealand
$500 if at an Institute of Technology/Polytechnic | Deadline: Suspended through early 2022
Scholarship to study in New Zealand
Annual scholarship awarded to five undergrad or grad student students to study abroad in New Zealand. Any student can apply.

USAC Scholarships
This scholarship is available for students taking part in a USAC program.

Critical Language Scholarship
Students must select one of 15 critical languages to study for eight to ten weeks abroad. For most of the languages, no previous experience studying the language is required. Participants are selected based on their commitment to language learning and plans to apply their language skills to their future academic or professional pursuits.
Award: CLS Program funding provides a full scholarship that covers all travel, tuition, housing, and a living stipend. | Deadline: Mid November

Freeman-ASIA Scholarship
Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
Award: Up to $5,000 for a semester, Up to $7,000 for a year | Deadline: March
Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
Any student (including graduate) studying/interning in Spain, Puerto Rico, Cuba, or Argentina can apply.

Asia Institute scholarships
The Asia Institute offers scholarships for International Business and Engineering students who are attending a university in the United States to participate in global learning experiences in Asia.
Award: $1,000 | Deadline: March
Morgan Stanley Scholarships for Study in Japan
Any student studying economics and international finance
Award: $7,500 | Deadline: Mid April
Watanabe Scholarship
Offered through the US Japan Council to US students studying in Japan for one semester or one year.
Award: Varies based on demonstrated financial need | Deadline: Mid February

The Dante Alighieri Society of Denver
College students who are studying Italian language, culture, history or music in institutions in the Denver metropolitan area and in northeastern Colorado. The student must be accepted in an established study abroad program in Italy.
Award: Based on the number and quality of the applicants | Deadline: Early April
Il Circolo Italiano Scholarship Program
This program awards one scholarship per year to a Colorado undergraduate who plans to study abroad in Italy. Selection is based on academic performance, letters of recommendation, financial need, and pursuit of the Italian language. Must be considered an Italian American.

Walter Jensen Scholarship
Studying to be a future French teacher.
Award: $2,000 | Deadline: Mid March
Scholarship to Study Abroad in Ireland
Annual scholarship to study in Ireland. This scholarship is awarded to two undergraduate or graduate students.
Award: Tuition waiver and 6,000-12,000 euros in stipend money. | Deadline: Late February
DAAD
Second or third year undergraduate with a good academic standing with well-defined internship or research plans. Must be studying abroad at a German University.
Award: Monthly stipend of EUR 650, health, accident and liability insurance, travel allowance. | Deadline: Late January
DAAD German Studies Research Grant
Undergraduates with at least junior standing pursuing a German Studies track or minor. Must be nominated by their department and/or program chair.

Fund for Education Abroad
Provides scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the U.S. study abroad population. US citizen or permanent resident who is enrolled as an undergraduate. The program must be for credit and run for at least 4 weeks.
Award: $5,000 - $10,000 | Deadline: Mid September; Late January
Churchill Foundation Scholarship
U.S. Citizen, Senior who is enrolled in one of the institutions participating in the Scholarship Program.
Award: $50,000 - $60,000 | Deadline: Early November
Tortuga Backpacks Study Abroad Scholarship
Any four-year university student with good academic standing.
Award: $1,000 | Deadline:Fall: Late May; Spring: Late December
TT's Cheap Flights Study Abroad Scholarship
Open to any citizen and/or resident of the United States (and its territories and possessions) who is enrolled full-time at an accredited institution of higher learning.
Award: $1,000 | Deadline: Mid October
Travel Writing Contests
Multiple writing prompts that allow for narrative, practical, and inspirational writing on subjects including travel, work, volunteering, study, and living abroad.
Award: Up to $500 | Deadline: Mid October
Golden Key Outstanding Member Award-GoldenKey
Must be a Golden Key member.
Award: $500 | Deadline: December
John McCain International Scholarship for the Children of Military Families (Gilman-McCain Scholarship)
U.S. undergraduate students who are child dependents of active duty military members and who receive any type of Title IV federal financial aid.
Award: $5,000 | Deadline: October
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship
Must be studying abroad for a full year.
Award: Up to $25,000 | Deadline:Prequalification Application Deadline: September

Any student with a 3.0 or greater GPA studying abroad in a program that is no shorter than 14 weeks can apply.

Killam Fellowships - American Student Application | Fulbright Canada
Must study abroad at a Canadian university.
Award: $5,000/Semester; $10,000/Full academic year | Deadline: Late January
Monfort College of Business Study Abroad Scholarships
Must be majoring within the MCB. Only programs with an MCB partner institution qualify for an MCB Study Abroad Scholarship.

Must be an HSS major.

Ryan Farley Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship
Must have completed at least one year at UNC prior to receiving the scholarship and demonstrate financial need.

David R. Caldwell Study Abroad Scholarship
Must be an undergraduate student with a declared major in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences or Interdisciplinary Studies: International Studies emphasis; or a graduate student in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

National Society of Collegiate Scholars Scholarship
NSCS is an honors organization that recognizes and elevates high-achieving students. NSCS provides career and graduate school connections, leadership and service opportunities, and gives out more than $500,000 annually in scholarships, awards, and chapter funds.
The Institute of International Education

Diversity Abroad
Diversity Abroad, in cooperation with the AIFS Foundation, will offer $500 scholarships for fall and spring semesters as well as summer term. Five scholarships are available for each semester and two scholarships are available for summer.
